Bishop Ordinary

The Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza was born at Nsambya Hospital on 15th of November 1952. His parents lived at Lusaze, Kyaddondo County, in now Mapeera Nabulagala Parish in the Archdiocese of Kampala.

He was ordained a priest on 3rd June 1983 at St. Mbaaga’s Seminary Ggaba, by the late Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga. Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese on 30th January 1999 and consecrated on 17th April 1999 at Rubaga.

Appointed Bishop of Lugazi Diocese on 4th November 2014 and installed on 3 rd January 2015.

Queen of Peace Cathedral Diocese of Lugazi

The Diocese of Lugazi was erected on 23rd February 1997, with Bishop Matthias Ssekamanya as its First Ordinary until 4th November 2014, when Pope Francis appointed a new shepherd in the names of The Rt. Rev. Christopher Kakooza, who was installed as Bishop of Lugazi on 3rd January 2015. This territory was formerly part of the Archdiocese of Kampala and is now a suffragan of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala.

BISHOP EMERITUS

The Rt. Rev. Matthias Ssekamanya was born at Luteete Health centre on 15 October 1930, Mulajje Parish (then Kampala Archdiocese) now Kasana-Luweero. His parents lived at Bubuubi near Zirobwe. Ordained Priest on 19th December 1965 at Lubaga Cathedral by Bishop J.Grief. Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese on 30th March, 1985 and consecrated on 2nd June, 1985 at Namugongo by His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga. Appointed First Bishop of Lugazi on 30th November, 1996 and took Canonical possession of Lugazi on 23rd February, 1997. Upon reaching his retirement age, the Holy Father accepted his resignation on 4th November 2014.
