Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda - HE Tomasz Krzysztof Grysa
Pope Leo XIV on 14th May 2026 appointed a Polish Vatican Diplomat, Archbishop Tomasz Krzysztof Grysa as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda to replace Most Rev. Luigi Bianco, who was appointed a Nuncio to Slovenia on 26th May 2025.
The appointment was officially announced by Rev. Fr. Georges Kwami Kouwonou, Chargé d’Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature and who was on temporary basis in charge of the Nunciature, in a brief statement released to the media at exactly 1:00 p.m.
Archbishop Grysa, got his first diplomatic appointment as Apostolic Nuncio On 27 September 2022, when Pope Francis appointed him Titular Archbishop of Rubicon and Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar and Apostolic Delegate to Comoros. He was consecrated as an archbishop on 1 November 2022.
And on 9 February 2023, the late Holy Father appointed him as Nuncio to the Seychelles as well before he transferred him to On 21 March 2023 as nuncio to the Mauritius
Tomasz Krzysztof Grysa was born on 16 October 1970 in Poznań, Poland. He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Poznań on 25 May 1995 by Archbishop Jerzy Stroba. He graduated from the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy and he holds a PhD degree in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
HE. Luigi Bianco ( April 2019 - May 2025)
Archbishop Luigi Bianco was born on March 3, 1960 in Montemagno Italy. He was ordained a priest on March 30, 1985 at Diocese of Casale Monferrato, Italy.
He earned a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome.
He was appointed Titular Archbishop of Falerone, on January 12, 2009, and ordained bishop on April 25 2009, at Sant’Evasio Cathedral, Casale Monferrato, Diocese of Casale Monferrato, Italy, by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
The Apostolic Nunciature in Uganda
The Apostolic Nunciature in Uganda was set up after diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Uganda were formally entered into on 2nd September 1966. Before this date the Catholic Church in Uganda was under the Apostolic Delegation of Kenya. The Apostolic Delegates, resident first in Mombasa, then in Nairobi, were:

The first Papal Representative to Uganda after the establishment of diplomatic relations was appointed on 6th August 1967. Up to 1999 the Representative of the Holy Father in Uganda was known by the title of "Apostolic Pro-Nuncio"; since then he carries the title of "Apostolic Nuncio".
