Celebrating Uganda Martrys Day 2025

This is an annual celebration held on every 3rd June.  It is the Feast of the Uganda Martyrs as decreed by the Act of Canonization in 1964 by the Universal Catholic Church.

In Uganda. the government declared this day a national public holiday in commemoration of the first Christian Martyrs in the country. The Uganda Martyrs Day attracts pilgrims from all corners of the world making it one of the biggest Christian events in the world. This celebration has a series of events that start a month earlier; with most of the Christians walking to the Shrine as a pilgrimage and homage to the Catholic Martyrs and Saints. Among other events is the Novena which begins on 25th May and ends.

Participating in the Uganda Martyrs’ Day celebrations is more than just a visit; it is a journey of faith, reflection, and community. It is a time to come together with fellow believers, engage in deep spiritual practices, and be part of a historic event.

The celebrations for 2025 will be animated by Lugazi Diocese on behalf of the Kampala Ecclesiastical Province, under the Uganda Episcopal Conference.

Lugazi Diocese is dedicated to making the 2025 celebrations spiritually enriching. Throughout 2024, they have been engaged in various activities including volunteer recruitment and community outreach to ensure that every aspect of the event is handled with care and devotion.

All Catholics and believers worldwide are hereby invited and encouraged to embark on this a spiritual journey to Namugongo in 2025. This is an opportunity to deepen your faith, seek spiritual renewal, and commemorate the sacrifice of the Uganda Martyrs.
