  • The Late Most Rev. Archbishop Emeritus Paul Kamuza Bakyenga

    His Grace Paul K. Bakyenga was born at Bumbaire, Igara, Kitabi Parish, Archdiocese of Mbarara on 30th June, 1944. Ordained a priest on 11th July 1971. Appointed Bishop Co-adjutor of Mbarara 6 Mar 1989 and was Ordained Bishop on 24th June, 1989 at Mbarara.

    On November 23rd, 1991 he succeeded the Bishop of Mbarara Diocese. On January 2nd, 1999 He was Appointed Archbishop of Mbarara (former Rwenzori Vicariate comprising the dioceses of Kabale, Kasese, Fort-Portal, Hoima and Mbarara).

    His Holiness Pope Francis accepted his retirement on the 25 April 2020 and appointed the Most. Rev. Lambert Bainomugisha.

  • The Late Rt. Rev. Albert Edward Dr. Baharagate

    The late Rt. Rev. Albert Edward Dr. Baharagate

    Bishop Emeritus of Hoima. Born at Nyamigisa, Masindi, on 25th February 1930, was ordained Priest at Nyamigisa Parish, Masindi, on 7th December 1958. Ordained Bishop on 1st August 1969. Installed Bishop of Hoima on 5th October 1969 and retired on 9th March 1991.

  • The Right Rev. Erasmus D Wandera

    The Retired Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese,Right Rev. Erasmus D Wandera, was born at Osia in Tororo (Archdiocese of Tororo) on 16th April 1930. He was ordained priest on 27th December 1956. He was appointed first Bishop of Soroti on 29th November. 1980, and consecrated Bishop on 29th March 1981. 

    He retired on 6th October 2007 and died on 8th December 2022.

  • The Late Right Rev. Martin Luluga

     

    The Late Right Rev. Martin Luluga was born on 1st March 1933 at Lodonga Parish, Arua Diocese. He was ordained Priest on 1st June 1963. He was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Gulu on 11th January 1987. Became Apostolic Administrator of Gulu in 1988 and was made Diocesan Bishop of Gulu on 22nd February 1990. He was installed as Bishop of Gulu on 12th April 1990. On 2nd January 1999, Bishop Martin Luluga was transferred to Nebbi Catholic Diocese. He was installed as Bishop of Nebbi Catholic Diocese on 18th April 1999. He died on 30th July 2022.

  • The Most Reverend Archbishop Denis Lote Kiwanuka

    The Late Most Reverend Archbishop Emeritus Denis Lote Kiwanuka was born on 25th March 1938 at Pallisa. He was ordained a priest on 19th Dec. 1965 inTororo. Elected First Bishop Kotido on 8th June 1991, he was consecrated a Bishop on 19th August 1991. On 27th of June 2007, the Holy Father appointed Bishop Denis Lote Kiwanuka, the Second Metropolitan Archbishop of Tororo.  Served until the 2nd day of January 2014 when Pope Francis accepted his retirement request.

    He Died on Sunday 24th April 2022

  • The Most Reverend James Odongo

    The Most Reverend James Odongo was born on 27th March 1931 at Molo, on Tororo-Mbale road. He was ordained a priest in Rome on 22nd Dec.1956. Elected Titular Bishop of Baana and Auxiliary Bishop of Tororo on 25th Nov. 1964. He was consecrated Bishop on 16th Feb. 1965, and appointed Bishop of Tororo on 16th August 1968. He became the First Metropolitan Archbishop of Tororo on 2nd Jan. 1999. On 27th June 2007 the Holy Father accepted his resignation from the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Tororo. Died on 04 December 2020

  • His Grace Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga

    His Grace Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga was born on 19th January 1953, at Kyabakadde, Naggalama, in the present Lugazi Diocese. He was ordained a priest on 8th April 1978 at Lubaga Cathedral by His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Nsubuga. Appointed first Bishop of Kasana-Luweero Diocese on 16th November 1996 and ordained Bishop on 1st March 1997 at Kasana-Luweero. Appointed the third Archbishop of Kampala on 19th August 2006 and installed as the third Archbishop of Kampala on 30th September 2006 at Lubaga Cathedral. He Died on 3rd April 2021.

  • The Rt. Rev. John B. Kaggwa

    The Late Right Reverend John Baptist Kaggwa was born at Bulenga (village)

    formerly Lubaga Parish, then Busega Parish and now Buloba Parish, in the Archdiocese of Kampala on 22 nd March 1943. He was ordained Priest on 12th December 1971 in Lubaga Cathedral by the late His Eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga. 

    Taught in Nswanjere Preparatory Seminary (1972-1975), founded and taught in St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary (1976-1983), at the same time served as Parish Priest of Ggaba Parish, taught in Kisubi Minor Seminary for one year and served as Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish in Kampala Archdiocese.

    He was sent to Rome to specialize in Canon Law and Civil law at the Lateran University obtaining a BA, an MA and PhD in the same disciplines. Meanwhile he served as the Vice Rector of Collegio San Paulo in Via di Torre Rossa. He was nominated Co-adjutor Bishop of Masaka Diocese on Holy Thursday 13 th April, 1995. He was ordained Bishop on 24 th June 1995 at Kitovu Cathedral by the Rt. Rev. Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu assisted by H.E Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, and Rt. Rev. Paul Kalanda. He was appointed Ordinary Bishop of Masaka Diocese on 10 th January 1998 and enthroned on 22 nd March 1998 at Villa Maria. He retired on

    16 th April 2019 and appointed Apostolic Administrator of Masaka Diocese from that date to 6 th July, 2019. He died on 20th January 2021. Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord.... 

  • The Late Rt. Rev. Bishop Henry Apaloryamam Ssentongo.

    The Late Rt. Rev. Bishop Henry Apaloryamam Ssentongo.

    Born on 30th Nov., 1936 at Villa- Maria, Masaka Diocese. Ordained priest on 21st Dec., 1963.  Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Masaka on 15th Dec.,1988. Ordained Bishop on 18th March, 1989 at Kitovu Cathedral, Masaka. Appointed Bishop of Moroto on 30th March, 1992 and installed as Bishop of Moroto on 11th July, 1992. Died on 12th Dec.,2019.

  • Rt. Rev. Dr. Deogratias Muganwa Byabazaire

    Diocese of Hoima


    Rt. Rev. Dr. Deogratias Muganwa Byabazaire was born at Karujubu, Masindi District, on 9th October, 1941. Ordained Priest at Bujumbura, Hoima, on 9th August 1969, ordained Bishop (Coadjutor) on 18th August 1990, was installed Bishop of Hoima on 9th March 1991. Bishop DeogratiasMuganwaByabazaire  wasa Priest for 44.4 years  and a bishop for 23.4 years   He died on 8th Feb 2014.

  • Right Reverend Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu

    MASAKA DIOCESE

    Right Reverend Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu, born at Ssango, Nazareth Parish in Masaka Diocese on 15th July 1923. Ordained Priest on 20th December 1952. Appointed Bishop of Masaka on 11th November, 1961. Ordained Bishop on 18th March, 1962 at Bukalasa Seminary. Retired on 10th January, 1998.

    Bishop Ddunguwasa priest for 57 years and a bishop for 47.7 years.  He died on 30thDec 2009 and was buried at Villa Maria Parish.

     

  • Rt Rev. Paul Kalanda

    FORT PORTAL DIOCESE

    The Rt Rev. Paul Kalanda. Born at Buwunde, Masaka Diocese, on 24th Feb.1927, ordained priest on 21st Dec.1957. Appointed Bishop of Moroto on 29th Nov, 1980. Consecrated Bishop on 22nd March 1981. Appointed Bishop of Fort Portal on 28th April 1991, installed Bishop of Fort Portal on 3rd Nov.1991. Retired on 15th June 2003 and appointed Apostolic Administrator of Lira Diocese on 2nd Dec till 9th July 2005. Bishop Kalanda died on 19 Aug 2015

    He was a priest for 57.6 years, and a bishop for 34.4 years

     

  • Bishop Joseph Mukwaya

    KIYINDI - MITYANA DIOCESE

    Bishop Joseph Mukwaya was born on 26 October 1928 at Vvumba, Nattyole Parish; ordained to the priesthood on 18th December 1960. He was nominated a Bishop on 10th September 1982 and consecrated a Bishop on 31st October 1982 becoming Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese. He was appointed Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana on 21st August 1988, announced on 10th September 1988, and took canonical possession of the Diocese on 8th October 1988. The Holy Father allowed him to retire as Ordinary Bishop on 23rd October 2004; the solemn enthronement of his successor, Bishop Joseph Antony Zziwa was on 21st November 2004. 

    Bishop Joseph Mukwaya died on 5th September, 2008.

    He was a priest for 47.7 years and a Bishop for 25. 8 years.

  • The late Rt. Rev. Joseph B. L. Willigers, MHM

    Bishop Joseph Bernard Louis Willigers M.H.M. (born 26 Oct 1930, died 30 Sep 2012) Bishop Emeritus of Jinja. was born in Gronsvld (The Netherlands) on the 26th of October 1930 and died Sunday, 30 September 2012 in his home country. He was ordained priest in Mill Hill (England) on the 10th of July 1955. Doctorate in Canon Law, Gregorian University Rome 1955-1958, arrived in Uganda in 1959 and transferred to Kenya in 1960. He was appointed first Bishop of the Diocese of Jinja on the 13th July 1967 and was ordained Bishop on the 3rd December 1967.

    On 2nd March,2010, the Holy Father accepted his resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Jinja and appointed him Apostolic Administrator of Jinja.

  • The Late Rt.Rev. Robert Mary Gay

    The Late Rt.Rev. Robert Mary Gay was born in Ottawa, Canada on 22nd January 1927 and died on 29th June 2016. On 31st January 1954 he was ordained a priest of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Africa. He served as Superior General of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers) from 1980 to 1986. He was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Kabale Diocese on 15th July 1994 after the retirement of Rt.Rev.Barnabas R. Halem’Imana. On 22nd January 1996, he was appointed Bishop of Kabale and on 9th March 1996 was ordained Bishop. He retired on 8th June 2003. He has since been assisting the priests in Uganda for renewal courses and retreats at St. Augustine’s Institute, Kampala which belongs to the Uganda Episcopal Conference.

  • The Late Rt. Rev. Barnabas Halem’Imana

    The Rt. Rev. Barnabas Halem’Imana was born at Rulangara, Busanza, Kisoro District in 1927. He was ordained a priest on 7th December 1958. On 1st August 1969 he was ordained the first Residential Bishop of Kabale Diocese. He retired on 15th July 1994 and died on 3rd January 2016.

  • The Late Bishop Emeritus of Mbarara Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kakubi

    The Late Bishop Emeritus of Mbarara Rt. Rev. John Baptist Kakubi (1969-1991) was born 23rd Sept 1929 at Birunduma, Bukanga and died on 11th February 2016. On 11th June 1960 he was Ordained Priest of Mbarara Diocese. On 26th June 1969 he was appointed Bishop of Mbarara Diocese. On 1st August 1969 he was Ordained Bishop of Mbarara Diocese. On 23rd November, 1991 he retired as Bishop of Mbarara Diocese.

     

  • The Late Rt. Rev. Joseph Oyanga (Bishop Emeritus)

     

    The Rt. Rev. Joseph Oyanga [right] was born in Omoro, Lira Diocese, on 28th Feb.1936, he was ordained a priest of Tororo Diocese on 19th May 1963 in Alanyi parish by Bishop Cypriano Kihangire of Gulu. He worked in Tororo Diocese until 14h of July 1989, when he
    was elected second bishop of Lira Diocese.

    He was ordained bishop of Lira on the 1st Oct. 1989 and he retired on 2nd Dec. 2003. He passed on 22nd July 2018 and was buried in the Cathedral of Lira.
