RIP Rt Rev John B Kaggwa, the Bishop Emeritus of Masaka Diocese.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Rt Rev John B Kaggwa, the Bishop Emeritus of Masaka Diocese.
Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord........

The Right Reverend John Baptist Kaggwa was born at Bulenga (village)
formerly Lubaga Parish, then Busega Parish and now Buloba Parish, in the Archdiocese of Kampala on 22 nd March 1943. He was ordained Priest on 12th December 1971 in Lubaga Cathedral by the late His Eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga. He died on 20th January 2021. Eternal rest grant unto him Oh Lord.... 


Taught in Nswanjere Preparatory Seminary (1972-1975), founded and taught in St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary (1976-1983), at the same time served as Parish Priest of Ggaba Parish, taught in Kisubi Minor Seminary for one year and served as Parish Priest of Christ the King Parish in Kampala Archdiocese.
He was sent to Rome to specialize in Canon Law and Civil law at the Lateran University obtaining a BA, an MA and PhD in the same disciplines. Meanwhile he served as the Vice Rector of Collegio San Paulo in Via di Torre Rossa. He was nominated Co-adjutor Bishop of Masaka Diocese on Holy Thursday 13 th April, 1995. He was ordained Bishop on 24 th June 1995 at Kitovu Cathedral by the Rt. Rev. Adrian Kivumbi Ddungu assisted by H.E Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, and Rt. Rev. Paul Kalanda. He was appointed Ordinary Bishop of Masaka Diocese on 10 th January 1998 and enthroned on 22 nd March 1998 at Villa Maria. He retired on
16 th April 2019 and appointed Apostolic Administrator of Masaka Diocese from that date to 6 th July, 2019.
