Administrative Secretaries of the S3ecretary General (SG) from the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in East Africa (AMECEA) have been meeting at Catholic Secretariat of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) in Lilongwe to deliberate on how best they can discharge their duties in their respective countries.

ECM Secretary General, Rev. Fr. Henry Saindi said he was delighted to host the administrative Secretaries in Malawi and feels the training they under-go will boost their professionalism.

Addressing the Administrative Secretaries on 22nd, November, 2017, ECM Chairman and the Archbishop of Lilongwe, Most Rev. Tarcizious Ziyaye said AMECEA is an important Association of Catholic Bishops and strives to make progress, hence, Administrative Secretaries to the Secretaries Generals are crucial in ensuring that this progress is realized.

“These meetings are important especially that you do rotate to different countries. Exposure is very important as we learn quite a lot from one another. The work of an Administrative Secretary is the hub of the Secretary General’s work,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Facilitator of the training, Valentino Zimpita expects that, by the end of the training, participants will be drilled in understanding conflict, win-win negotiation, conflict management strategies, time management, ethics and integrity, stress management and confidentiality.

Speaking on behalf of fellow Administrative Secretaries, AMECEA Secretariat’s Sr. Nancy Wangui Karanja commended Archbishop Ziyaye and ECM Secretary General for the warm welcome to Malawi.

“On behalf of my friends who are participating in this training, I would like to thank you, Your Grace and the Secretary General for allowing us to be here and we don’t take this gesture for granted. We also thank our facilitator for sharpening us into good Secretaries hence promise to be much better after-wards,” said Sr. Karanja

Among the participants to the training include Sr. Karanja (AMECEA Secretariat, Ms Gloria Pereira (Malawi), Ms. Cissy Kagimu (Uganda), Sr. Audrey Mwale (Zambia) and Mrs Hellen Maingi (Kenya).
