Pope Francis celebrates Mass at the sanctuary dedicated to Catholic martyrs

The sanctuary was built in the same spot that the catechist Carlos Lwanga and 21 other Catholics were martyred on June 3, 1886.

Pope Paul VI canonized them in 1964. The sanctuary has become an important place for pilgrims.
